The Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) historically and traditionally had a unique administrative and political status from the British times since 1849. They controlled the area through a combination of effective Political Agents and tribal elders, while leaving the people with their traditions and internal independence. Pakistan inherited this system and more or less continues with it even today. Since the independence of Pakistan, FATA has not been accorded the same priority in terms of the development process being undertaken in other parts of the country. Since independence these areas have been under the control of Federal Government. To bring these people in main stream and for development of these areas Federal Government, FATA Secretariat and FATA Development Authority have taken number of steps. In concert with the vision of Federal Government, Pakistan Army has also taken a step forward to contribute in the field of education especially vocational and technical education.
Establishment of KITE by Pakistan Army is one of the steps in this direction. The purpose of establishing KITE was to harness enormous human resources of our homeland and to help generate a technical work force. Mores to contribute positively and to help a segment of our society, which could not get education and is financially weak.
The KITE was formally launched in Oct 2006, however training of 1st Batch commenced in Jan 2007 in collaboration with NAVTEC (National Vocational & Technical Education Commission). However after 4th Batch, FDA (FATA Development Authority) remained actively involved with KITE and is providing financial support for KITE students. KITE has so far organized eight courses and trained 1361 students. Best possible environments are provided to the students so as to develop their technical skills and also make them very useful member of this society.
